Construction Worker Falls To Death On Upper West Side: FDNY

A construction worker fell to his death at West End Avenue and West 72nd Street Monday morning, an FDNY spokesperson said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A construction worker fell to his death Monday morning on the Upper West Side, an FDNY spokesperson told Patch.

The worker fell at 263 West End Ave., near West 72nd Street, about 11:25 a.m.,the FDNY said.

A complaint filed from that address to the Buildings department states the worker fell from scaffolding onto a sidewalk shed, but that information was not confirmed by the FDNY.

A Department of Buildings preliminary investigation conducted shortly after the tragedy found that the man fell 15 stories "while installing netting around supporting scaffolding at the worksite."

It's unclear how the fall happened.

The building is 15 stories tall and the scaffolding and sidewalk shed only went up around it in the past year, according to the DOB and Google Maps.
