Cyclists Be Warned: Detour In Riverside Park Starts Monday
NYC Parks announced that cyclists will be temporarily rerouted starting Monday in an UWS section of Riverside Park. Here's what to know.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — NYC Parks recently announced that due to overnight construction in Riverside Park, cyclists will be temporarily rerouted from "the greenway to the park's waterfront pedestrian path between 59th and 72nd Streets."
The detour route will begin on Monday and only be in effect after 8 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Cyclists can still use the regular Riverside Park bike path during the day.
The temporary reroute is expected to last for two weeks.

To make the reroute clear for pedestrians and bikers in the Upper West Side park, signs will be posted at related path entrances to notify them of the detour and urge "caution on the shared waterfront pedestrian path."
The detour is due to construction on the sixth and final phase of the Riverside Park South project, according to a news release from NYC Parks. The project will complete the addition of 32 new acres in the city's park system.

The completion of a 4.6-acre space from West 65th to West 68th Street within the park in October 2020 marked the end of the fifth phase of the Riverside Park South project. The Riverside Park Conservancy now has its full attention on the final phase of Riverside Park South's reconstruction, which is work between 59th and 65th Streets expected to last close to two years.
