2 Preteen Girls Abused By UWS Migrant Shelter Guard, DA Says

The defendant was indicted on accusations of sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child, and forcible touching.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A security guard at an Upper West Side migrant shelter has been accused of sexually abusing two girls who lived in the shelter he worked for, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.

Bragg, who announced the indictment on Wednesday, said that Oscar Delgado, 38, was the security guard at West 88th Street and Riverside Drive shelter for approximately two months.

Bragg said that Delgado is accused of sexually abusing two sisters — ages eight and 10 — in the stairwell of the shelter on Nov. 25.

Prosecutors say that Delgado first approached the eight-year-old, touching her over her clothing, and then later touched the 10-year-old under her clothing, forcibly squeezing her buttocks, Bragg said.

The shelter’s head of security then called 911 on Delgado, Bragg said.

"Oscar Delgado allegedly sexually assaulted two sisters, abusing his power as a security guard whose duty was to protect the very children we allege he abused,” Bragg said. “This charged conduct is deeply disturbing, and I hope the survivors continue to heal from these assaults."

Delgado is charged with two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of forcible touching, Bragg said.

The investigation is ongoing, Bragg said.
