Fire Breaks Out At Upper West Side's Lincoln Towers, FDNY Says

A "strong" smoke condition was reported in the high-rise building, but nobody was injured, fire officials said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A fire broke out Friday morning in the Upper West Side's Lincoln Towers apartment complex, causing many floors of the high-rise building to be enveloped in smoke, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire started in 180 West End Avenue — one of eight building in the apartment complex located between West 66th and 70th streets — around 10:20 a.m., a fire spokesman said. Firefighters responded to the scene and discovered a "strong" smoke condition overtaking the building from the 17th to the 28th floors, the spokesman said.

The fire was placed under control around 11:44 and is believed to have started on the building's 17th floor, an FDNY spokesman said.

City fire marshals will investigate the cause of the fire, police said.
