Goodwill's 'Curated' Upper West Side Store To Close

The thrift store opened its "Curated by Goodwill" concept store in July.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An Upper West Side thrift store run by the Goodwill is closing after just half a year in business, a Goodwill spokesperson told Patch.

The "Curated by Goodwill" concept store at 217 W. 79th St., between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, will close on Dec. 17 in anticipation of its lease expiration at the end of the month, a Goodwill spokesperson said. The store offered second-hand clothing items curated by a rotating list of featured stylists.

The concept didn't last long on the Upper West Side — the store opened in July — but Goodwill has expanded it to stores in Brooklyn and Paramus, New Jersey. The curated idea was designed by a team of four students at SUNY's Fashion Institute of Technology and is part of Goodwill's Vision 2020 strategic plan to create a shopping experience more in-line with current consumer trends.

The team of FIT students who developed the idea for Curated by Goodwill were awarded $10,000 for their winning concept, according to a press release.

Goodwill plans to station a van near its West 79th Street store to operate as a drop off location. The thrift store's West 72nd Street location will remain open.
