'I Will Slash You': Armed Robbery At UWS Duane Reade, Police Say

A suspect brandished a knife during a shoplifting incident at a Duane Reade on the Upper West Side on Friday afternoon, police confirmed.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY – A shoplifting incident rapidly escalated when a 53-year-old man intervened, officials said.

An unidentified individual walked into the Duane Reade at 700 Columbus Avenue near West 94th Street at about 4:40 p.m. on Friday and began removing items – two coffee makers – from the shelf, police said.

A 53-year-old man approached the individual and asked the person to leave the store. The suspect then pulled out a silver knife. “I will slash you,” the individual said, according to officials.

The suspect fled the location on foot to parts unknown. Police were unable to confirm whether or not the victim was an employee. There were no injuries.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.

The two coffee makers were recovered, a police spokesperson told Patch.
