Lincoln Plaza Cinemas Successor Reveals Summer Screening Lineup
New Plaza Cinemas will screen 17 films at the Upper West Side JCC this summer.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The spiritual successor of the Upper West Side's recently-shuttered Lincoln Plaza Cinemas announced its full summer film screening lineup.
New Plaza Cinemas will be screening 17 independent films this summer at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, the group's founders said in a press release. New Plaza Cinemas previously announced its partnership with the JCC earlier in June.
The summer film series includes a marathon in memory of late Upper West Side writer Philip Roth and other independent films including films that Lincoln Plaza Cinemas had planned to show before closing, according to New Plaza Cinemas.

Screenings will be held in the JCC's 250-seat auditorium in its building on Amsterdam Avenue and West 76th Street. New Plaza Cinema will look for a more permanent location in the future, founder Norma Levy said in a statement earlier this month.
"We immediately booked as many nights as possible in our theater and started working on a program. As fate would have it, I met Toby Talbot at an event who introduced me to the folks from New Plaza Cinema, and it was a match made in heaven," Isaac Zablocki, director of The Carole Zabar Center for Film at The JCC, said in a statement.

Talbot and her late husband Dan Talbot opened the six-screen Lincoln Plaza Cinemas in 1981 on Broadway between West 62nd and 63rd streets and served as tastemakers of the New York City film scene. Before opening Lincoln Plaza Cinemas the Talbots operated the New Yorker Theater, Manhattan's Cinema Studio and Metro Theater through the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Talbot is not officially affiliated with New Plaza Cinema, but "fully supports" the group, she said in a statement this month.
