Lincoln Plaza Successor Finds New Space On Upper West Side

The New Plaza Cinemas, a spiritual successor to the shuttered Lincoln Plaza Cinemas, will screen films at Symphony Space this fall.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The spiritual successor of the Upper West Side's recently-shuttered Lincoln Plaza Cinemas has found a venue for its fall film screenings.

New Plaza Cinemas will move its screenings to Symphony Space on Broadway and West 95th Streets starting Aug. 24, a spokesperson for the group said. New Plaza Cinemas, formed this year, held its inaugural summer film series at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan.

The group is still putting finishing touches on its fall screening lineup, it says on its website. The group's first film at Symphony Space will be the newly-released indie film "Madeline’s Madeline," which will run from Aug. 24-30 with showtimes at 7 and 9 p.m., according to a press release. The film focuses on "a teenager trying to find her place in the world," the press release said.

New Plaza Cinemas will also screen the documentary "RBG" daily at 4:30 p.m., according to the press release. The documentary focuses on the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

New Plaza Cinemas was started by a group of devoted supporters of the shuttered Lincoln Plaza Cinemas on Broadway between West 62nd and 63rd streets. Lincoln Plaza Owner Toby Talbot, who founded the cinema with her late husband Dan Talbot, is not officially involved with New Plaza Cinema, but supports the group's efforts to continue her and her husband's work on the Upper West Side.
