Maman, Popular UWS Bakery, Closed By City For Pests And Food Temps
The Health Department shuttered Maman temporarily at 429 Amsterdam on Tuesday after it observed pest conditions and unsafe food conditions.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Maman, a popular bakery and coffee spot on the Upper West Side, was closed temporarily by the Health Department on Tuesday after the department said it found pest conditions and food not being held at the correct temperature.
The bakery at 429 Amsterdam Ave., between West 80th and 81st streets, was shuttered mid-day Tuesday and stamped with a yellow notice sign from the Health Department that read "CLOSED."
A customer who arrived just after its closure told Patch a waitress was in tears.

Here's exactly what a spokesperson from the Health Department told Patch for why it decided to close the Upper West Side cafe.
"On Sept. 27, a Health Department inspection observed pest conditions, as well as food not being held at the required temperature. In order to protect the health of city diners, we ordered the restaurant closed until conditions are remedied."

The bakery was still closed as of midday Wednesday.
A manager of the Maman location did not go into details with Patch on a phone call, but instead said it was experiencing "technical difficulties." The manager added that they weren't sure when the bakery would reopen.
The manager made no mention of the pest conditions or the food not being held at correct temperatures.
Maman has more than 10 locations across New York City and has previously been dubbed the best cookie maker in New York City and received praise from Oprah Winfrey.
The location at 429 Amsterdam Ave is almost always bustling with customers.
