Man Arrested In Upper West Side Hit And Run, 2 Injured: Police

The driver smashed his car into another vehicle when he was exiting the West Side Highway early Monday, then fled the scene, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A driver was arrested after fleeing the scene of a crash that left two people injured, police said.

Eleodoro Jerez, 50, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injured, officials told Patch.

The collision happened early Monday morning when a 19-year-old driver and a passenger where driving on the West Side Highway near West 79th Street at around 2:20 a.m., police said.

As the teen driver was driving, Jerez, behind the wheels of an unknown model of Jeep, smashed into him as he was changing lanes in order to exit at West 79th Street, according to officials.

The 19-year-old lost control of his car and smashed into a median next to the exit ramp, police said.

According to police, Jerez fled the scene.

First responders rushed the teen driver and his passenger to St. Luke's Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries, police said.

Five hours later, Jerez returned to the scene of the crash — where police were able to arrest him, officials said.
