Man Tried To Murder Tourist On UWS, District Attorney Says

The tourist was hospitalized with a deep neck laceration and a severed ear, Bragg said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man has been indicted on attempted murder charges for chasing and stabbing a tourist in the neck on the Upper West Side this November, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said on Tuesday.

According to Bragg, Joshua Zinberg, 25, got out of his parked car and ran across Columbus Avenue, holding a knife, to pursue a 55-year-old man who was walking along West 86th Street, on Nov. 20, at 10:22 a.m.

Then, Zinberg attacked the man from behind, slashing the side of his face, through his ear, and into his neck, before running back to his car, Bragg said.

“Joshua Zinberg allegedly slashed an international tourist who was walking on the Upper West Side in an unprovoked and brazen daylight attack. When tourists visit New York, they should not have to fear for their safety,” Bragg said.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital where he received medical treatment for his severed ear and a deep laceration in his neck, Bragg said.

Zinberg was arrested the next day while driving on the Upper West Side, Bragg said.

On Tuesday, Zinberg was charged a New York State Supreme Court indictment with attempted murder in the second degree, and assault in the first and second degree, Bragg said.

“We will continue to prosecute those who commit random acts of violence on the streets of Manhattan. I hope the victim continues to heal from this horrifying assault,” Bragg said.
