UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A thief with sticky fingers for electronics was caught trying to steal a laptop Saturday from an Upper West Side Best Buy, and pepper sprayed the security guard who successfully stopped him, police said.

A man grabbed a laptop from an aisle in a Best Buy at 1880 Broadway (between 61st and 62nd streets) about 3:55 p.m., police said. He then tried to walk out of the Upper West Side location, but was confronted by a 30-year-old employee who was able to get the laptop back, police said.

Upon losing the computer, the man fired off pepper spray in the employee's face and ran out of the store, police said.
