UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The moped driver in a fatal hit and run that killed "Gone Girl" actress Lisa Banes on the Upper West Side last June was sentenced to up to three years in jail on Wednesday, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's office.

Brian Boyd, 27, pleaded guilty in September to second-degree manslaughter and leaving the scene of an incident that resulted in death, the Manhattan DA said.

“Lisa Banes was a beloved friend, family and community member whose life was tragically cut short," Bragg said in a statement given to Patch. "New York City continues to mourn her loss with them and it is my sincere hope that her loved ones are able to heal and recover.”

Banes was struck by the moped on June 4, 2021, at the intersection of West 64th Street and Amsterdam Avenue as she headed to a dinner with her wife.

An investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad found that Banes was attempting to cross Amsterdam Avenue, from west to east inside the north crosswalk at West 64th Street, when a scooter traveling north ran a red light and struck her, according to police.

Banes, who has appeared in numerous television shows and movies, including “Gone Girl” in 2014 and “Cocktail” with Tom Cruise in 1988, died 10 days later from her injuries. Banes attended Juilliard and acted in many roles on Broadway.

Boyd was arrested two months later in connection to the hit and run.

“Boyd is a danger to anyone in New York City,” Banes’ wife Kathryn Kranhold said during the hearing, reported the New York Post. “Anyone crossing the street with the right of way.”

Banes was 65.
