Man Stabbed On UWS Train, Woman Fires Mace In Effort To Help: NYPD

An argument between two people Wednesday night led to a man getting stabbed on a train as it entered the 72nd Street station, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man was stabbed Wednesday night within a train on the Upper West Side after an argument broke out between passengers, police said.

The attacker cut the the 26-year-old man in the left leg and hand with a kitchen knife about 11:05 p.m. as a northbound 2 train entered the 72nd Street station, police said.

The man was traveling with a woman who maced the attacker, who police described as an older man, when it became clear that there might be a knife attack, police said.

The NYPD spokesperson was not sure if the mace happened before or after the 26-year-old got slashed, police said.

It is also unclear what the argument was between the two parties.

The slasher then fled the train and jumped onto a northbound 1 train across the platform, police said.

The man who was slashed was transported to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

There have been no arrests as of Thursday morning.
