Mel’s Burger Bar Shutters After 13 Years On UWS, Mgmt Says

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY - Mel’s Burger Bar, a longtime burger joint near Columbia University’s Morningside Heights campus, has shuttered for good.

Located at 2850 Broadway near 110th Street, Mel’s Burger Bar has been serving up burgers, fries, milkshakes, beer and more since 2010. The restaurant closed its doors to customers on Sunday.

“Thanks to all our customers and loyal employees over the past 13 plus years,” Mel’s Burger Bar ownership said in an Instagram post on Saturday. “It’s been a hell of a ride.”

No reason was given as to why the establishment was closing. The burger joint’s other location at 1450 Second Ave. near 76th Street will remain open.

“Best bar on the UWS. Gonna miss it,” one Instagram user wrote.

“This place got me though grad school. Thank you for everything,” another wrote.

Before it was Mel’s Burger Bar, the space at 2850 Broadway housed Tomo Sushi & Sake Bar, which closed in 2009.
