Mermaid Inn Closing Upper West Side Location
The popular restaurant is looking for a new location in the neighborhood, though. "It's just a good place to be," the owner told Patch.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Mermaid Inn, one of the most popular restaurants on the Upper West Side, will permanently close next month, Daniel Abrams, one of the owners of the seafood eatery, told Patch.
The restaurant at 570 Amsterdam Ave., between West 87th and 88th streets, will close on Oct. 16.
Mermaid Inn decided to close its Upper West Side location after a new owner took over the building with unknown plans for the address. "We didn't want to have a restaurant surrounded by a scaffold," Cindy Smith, who owns the restaurant along with Abrams, told the New York Post, which was the first publication to report on the impending closure.

It's not all bad news, though.
Abrams told Patch that it was looking at new spots to open on the Upper West Side. The ownership team currently had its eyes on three undisclosed locations, but hadn't made a decision yet.

He could say, though, that the new Upper West Side restaurant was hoping to open in late spring or summer.
"We've been here for 15 years, celebrated birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and holidays with our guests up here and it feels like they're family — so we wanted to continue to service the Upper West Side," Abrams, a resident of the neighborhood, told Patch. "It's just a good place to be."
The restaurant also has three locations in Lower Manhattan.
