UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The neighborhood favorite spot Book Culture unexpectedly shuttered one of its Upper West Side location on Columbus Avenue between 81st and 82nd Streets permanently in January 2020, but it looks like the community staple might be coming back to the same area.

A recent filing to the Landmark Preservation Commission for a new facade at 55 West 86th Street between Columbus and Central Park West shows a design with a Book Culture storefront on the front of the building.

The application wants to put in new limestone panels to the building, add new steel windows, a new glass entryway, and a painted signage band, which has the words Book Culture written across it.

Chris Doeblin, the owner of Book Culture, told the West Side Rag that he had "no comment" when asked about if he's planning on opening a new book store at the location.

The now-shuttered beloved bookstore outpost on the Upper West Side was unexpectedly evicted in January after Doeblin wasn't able to reach a deal with its landlord to stay open. The closure occurred even after Doeblin successfully raised $600,000 through a "community lending program," which customers helped fund.
