UPPER WEST SIDE, NY -A dispute that arose out of a reported foot misstep resulted in a slashing near Central Park Wednesday evening, authorities said.

Rachel Williams, 34, of Far Rockaway, Queens, was arrested and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the slashing, which sent a 36-year-old man to the hospital, police said.

The victim told police the situation began about 7:33 p.m. near Central Park West and West 89 Street after Williams accused him of stepping on her foot, police said.

Though the victim reportedly tried to run away from her, Williams caught up to him and began to punch him “multiple times with a closed fist” before slashing him several times in the face and hands with a cutting instrument, police said.

Medics transported the victim to St. Luke’s Hospital in serious but stable condition, police said.
