UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — While most of the Upper West Side election attention went to the Congressional District 12 race between Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney, another important neighborhood race was on the ballot Tuesday night in the newly drawn State Senate District 47.

Sen. Brad Hoylman emerged victorious in the Democratic primary over Maria Danzilio, with a vote count of 73 percent to 27 percent, reported NY1.

Hoylman secured 27,814 votes, while Danzilo, who previously had run for the Upper West Side City Council position, ended with 10,279 votes as of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, according to NY1.

The newly drawn district stretches from the north end of the West Village all the way through West 101st Street on the Upper West Side, meaning it includes the majority of the neighborhood.

The redistricting means that Hoylman, after he almost certainly wins the November General Election, will be a much larger figure on the UWS.

He has represented Manhattan's State Senate District 27 since 2012, but this only included a much smaller southern portion of the Upper West Side.

Hoylman took to Twitter Wednesday morning to thank the voters.

"Thank you 27,814 times to the voters of the new Senate District 47 (and for 73 percent of the vote!), he wrote. "See you soon at Zabar's, Jerry Nadler. It was an honor to run alongside you."

Danzilo won just a single election district in the race, according to unofficial BOE data.T

That district?

Election District 64 in Assembly District 69, which is the NYCHA Wise Towers on the UWS between 90th and 91st Street.

Danzilo centered her platform on crime reduction and street safety.
