UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Silver Moon Bakery, which has been doling out baked goods to Upper West Siders on Broadway and West 105th Street since 2000 to loyal fans, has announced its official closure is coming at the end of the month.

The bakery's official last day, which will be March 23, comes almost three months after its landlord, Broadside Realty, filed a lawsuit in Manhattan state Supreme Court accusing the business of owing more than $200,000 after refusing to leave the location when the lease ended eight months ago on May 31. This news was first reported by West Side Rag.

This January, Silver Moon Bakery co-owner Judith Norell told Patch she wanted to keep things going at the bakery despite the lawsuit.

However, this Wednesday Norell told Patch the bakery has ultimately decided not to fight the landlord’s refusal to extend the business’s lease.

"Landlords always win in New York, specially for commercial properties," Norell said in a text to Patch. "When the lease is up, the landlord has no obligation to renew it."

At the moment, Norell told Patch she has no plans to reopen in a different location, and for now, is just trying to "close in a reasonable and calm way."

This news comes amid a wave of similarly earth-shattering closures on the Upper West Side — Absolute Bagels in December, and Shakespeare & Co. bookstore, coming up in April.
