Pasta Paradise Canto Now Open On UWS
A new Italian restaurant on the Upper West Side promises handmade pasta, chocolate soufflé, and frozen espresso martinis.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY – As of Tuesday, West Siders have a new option for Italian: Canto is now open at 2014 Broadway, next to Zizi Wine Bar between 68th and 69th Street.
The new location, a sister of the restaurant’s original restaurant in the West Village, will serve an extensive menu of pasta – some of which, a press release promises, is handmade – as well as classics like branzino and veal.
Pair these with a wine list similar to what Canto offers downtown, and save room for desserts like tiramisu, ricotta cheesecake, and intriguingly, a chocolate soufflé. If you prefer to drink your dessert, on the other hand, a frozen espresso martini is available.

Brunch service is in the works, although a spokesperson didn’t have a timeline for when that might begin.
The new location appears to aspire to be a neighborhood restaurant that also attracts the Lincoln Center crowd, mixing “industrial and modern elements to create a stylish and welcoming space,” according to a press release. On a wall, artist Karina Smyrnova has created a mural which “represents the harmony and elegance that Italian culture brings to the world.”

The location was formerly home to Sapphire Cuisine of India, which closed in 2019. News of the opening first broke in June.
Canto is now open Tuesday to Saturday, from 4-11 p.m.
