UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Hot summer nights are here, making it the perfect time to indulge in a nighttime sweet treat—and what's better than ice cream? Soon, Upper West Siders will have a new ice cream parlor to visit.
Salt and Straw, a popular and beloved ice cream shop from Portland, is opening its first locations in New York City, including one on the Upper West Side, as first reported by the Strong Buzz.
The company announced the news on social media, sharing that expanding to the East Coast has been a goal of theirs for more than six years.

In addition to the Upper West Side location, the company will be opening a store at 540 Hudson Street in the West Village. Like their other shops, the future menu will feature a rotating selection of core flavors such as Cinnamon Snickerdoodle, Double Fold Vanilla, Arbequina Olive Oil, Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Honey Lavender and more.
They will also offer a collection of vegan ice cream flavors and a specialty menu of five flavors that change regularly.
No official opening date has been announced yet. However, the company hosted a preview event outside their upcoming West Village location back in April. During the event, from 1 to 3 p.m., every scoop of ice cream was priced at one dollar, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit Hot Bread Kitchen.
"Community building is in Salt & Straw DNA. We establish deep connections with our scoop neighborhoods, supporting everyone from local artisans to students and organizations," the company said. "With every new scoop shop, we meet our customers and community where they are, creating meaningful experiences just for them."
