RIVERSIDE PARK, NY — Riverside Park was a party scene Wednesday morning as crowds gathered for the return of the beloved goats that cleared local weeds and won the hearts of the neighborhood in 2019.

The second ceremonial "Running of the Goats" kicked off at 11 a.m. at 120th Street with live music and speeches from the event's organizers.

The goats were wheeled into the Morningside Heights section of the park just after 11 a.m.

Despite the 24 goats running on Wednesday, only five of the goats, the "Fabulous Five," will stay in Riverside Park for the entirety of the summer. The Conservancy is giving New Yorkers the option of voting for their favorite of the bunch.

Here are the candidates:

  • Skittles, a seasoned park veteran, finalist for the G.O.A.T. title in 2019;
  • Buckles, a popular cheerleader for the Park, sometimes struggles to distinguish porcelain berry from mugwort;
  • Chalupa, keeps his head down, ate through the park in 2019, some say not exciting but works hard to get the job done;
  • Mallemar, known to be truly idealistic, a booster of all goats, lover of all park visitors;
  • Ms. Bo Peep, a newcomer to the scene, a wildcard rookie.

The five goats will roam an area between 120th and 125th Street for the rest of the summer.
