Severe Thunderstorms, Dangerous Heat Target NYC: Latest Forecast
The National Weather Service issued a "Hazardous Weather Outlook" for this week in New York City.
NEW YORK CITY — The city is in for another stormy week, with rounds of potentially severe thunderstorms and high temperatures from Wednesday night through Thursday night, according to the latest forecast.
Forecasters from the National Weather Service have issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Thursday, noting that if the thunderstorms on Thursday are severe, they could bring "damaging wind gusts along with heavy rain, frequent lightning and small hail," which could put a damper on some Juneteenth celebrations this Thursday.
The outlook was issued for all five boroughs of New York City, as well as parts of Connecticut and New Jersey.

As of Wednesday, the National Weather Service says there is a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday night, Thursday and Thursday night.
Then, the weather will clear up over the weekend, but heading into next week, the city could see a heat wave, forecasters say.

"The confidence in an extended period of high heat and humidity is increasing for early next week. The heat may begin on Sunday and linger through Wednesday, peaking on Monday and Tuesday. Lows at night may not offer much relief with high humidity persisting. Continue to monitor the forecast for details on this potentially significant heat wave," forecasters at the National Weather Service said.

Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. Areas of fog before 2 p.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 80. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a slight chance of showers between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Increasing clouds, with a high near 89. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m., then a chance of showers between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 84. Northwest wind around 8 mph.
Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 69.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86.
Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 72.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 89.
