Shots Fired In UWS Near NYCHA Complex, NYPD Launch Probe
The shots were reported Thursday evening on Amsterdam Avenue, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY - Authorities are investigating a series of gunshots fired on Amsterdam Avenue Thursday evening in the Upper West Side.
The shots were fired about 6:16 p.m. outside 865 Amsterdam Ave., a NYCHA building part of the Frederick Douglass Houses.
There were no reported injuries, police said.

An arrest has not been announced as of Friday morning. The investigation is ongoing.

As of Friday, New York City has 818 reported shooting incidents so far in 2023, according to city data. That's down about 26.3% from the same time the previous year.
In the 24th precinct where the shooting took place, police have seen six shooting incidents so far in 2023. That’s a 50% increase compared to the four shootings reported this time last year.
