Sinkhole Opens Up On Upper West Side, Takes Truck With It: Photos
A sinkhole opened up Tuesday morning on the Upper West Side at 71 W. 89th St.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A sinkhole opened up on the Upper West Side Tuesday morning, taking a car with it, photos show and Council Member Gale Brewer tweeted out.
A Department of Environmental Protection truck fell into the hole at West 89th Street between Columbus and Central Park West, damaging a gas line, according to Brewer.


"Please be advised that FDNY has transmitted an all-hands assignment for a gas main struck due to a DEP vehicle inside a sinkhole in front of a three-story multi-dwelling building with eight residential units," Brewer tweeted out.

The UWS elected official added that 25 residents at nearby addresses were without gas as of 2:10 p.m. because of damage to the gas main.
The Department of Environmental Protection told Patch it is on the scene investigating the sinkhole.
