Sliwa Tries, Fails To Bring Cat To UWS Polling Site

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa came within a whisker of not being allowed to cast his election ballot Tuesday morning.

The Republican, who famously lives with his wife Nancy and their 15 cats in an Upper West Side studio apartment, turned up at his polling station accompanied by one of those pets, Gizmo.

He was quickly told animals were not allowed inside.

"No pets in pollsite," read a sign he tweeted from his campaign Twitter account.

Eventually Sliwa voted — cat-less — and the signs were later taken down, he tweeted.

"I just finished voting. You have to vote, too. If you don't vote, I have no chance of winning," Sliwa said in a video posted to his campaign Twitter account.

Sliwa and his wife, who is running for the Upper West Side City Council District 6 seat, have both made animal welfare a core component of their campaigns.
