These Are The Best Schools In UWS, New Ranking Says

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Seven Upper West Side schools were ranked among the best in the New York City area as part of Niche’s 2024 Best Schools and Districts rankings, which was released this week.

In the Upper West Side, the top schools across rankings were all pricey private schools. Trinity School ranked the highest on the list for the neighborhood — sixth overall among other New York-area private schools — with an overall letter grade of A+. Grades in specific categories were:

Academics: A+
Teachers: A+
Clubs and activities: A+
Sports: B
Diversity: A
College prep: A+

No public schools in the Upper West Side cracked the top 100 for any of Niche's 2024 rankings.

Here are the other schools that all made the top 100 list for Niche's 2024 Private High Schools in the New York City Area ranking:

• No. 14: Collegiate School
• No. 37: Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School
• No. 52: The Calhoun School
• No. 50: Dwight School
• No. 53: Trevor Day School
• No. 73: Professional Children's School

Niche ranked 94,058 public schools and 30,809 private schools in its 2024 rankings. The platform said its rankings were created to provide families with valuable information — both quantitative and qualitative — on schools in their area or in a neighborhood they’re not familiar with yet.

The rankings differ from others that rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance in that it also includes input from students, alumni and parents, as well as quantitative data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities.
