Trio Punch Clerk, Rob UWS Smoke Shop: Police

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A trio of robbers punched a store clerk before robbing an Upper West Side smoke shop Monday night, police said,

The robbery unfolded about 8 p.m. when three people entered a smoke shop on Amsterdam Avenue near West 81st Street, officials told Patch.

The individuals hopped over the store's counter and punched a worker, police said, before fleeing with merchandise from the shop.

Police could not provide details regarding what was taken or what the estimated value of the theft was.

The three people then fled toward West 82nd Street on foot, officials said.

No description was offered by police, aside from that the three were wearing all black.

An NYPD spokesperson also did not have any details about the injuries to the store clerk, but they did confirm that the worker declined to go to the hospital for his injuries.

No arrests have been made, and the incident is still under investigation by police.
