Tropical Storm Remnants To Bring Rain, Thunder To NYC: See Latest Timeline
The city will be under a heat advisory on Tuesday, and more heavy rain and storms are coming this week, forecasters say.
NEW YORK CITY — As the remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal pass the area, New York City could get slammed with heavy rain and thunderstorms this week, with possible flash flooding, according to the latest forecast.
On Monday, National Weather Service forecasters said the city could see rainstorms and possibly some thunder through the late afternoon and evening.
"Showers and thunderstorms may produce torrential downpours into early this evening," forecasters at the National Weather Service said in a Hazardous Weather Outlook. "Localized areas of flash flooding are possible."

Despite the expected rain Monday, the city will be under a Heat Advisory on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., and will have a high of 90, the National Weather Service said. However, the temperature could feel closer to 96 degrees, due to humidity, forecasters said.

The heavy rain will come back Tuesday night, and continue on and off in rounds until at least Friday, according to the latest forecast.

Monday: A chance of showers before 11 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m.. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Monday night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. South wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 96. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph.
