Upper West Side Restaurant Named Among Hottest In Manhattan
A newcomer to the UWS was just added to a list of Manhattan's hottest new restaurants for March. Find out which.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — One of the city's most highly anticipated restaurant openings of 2022 happened last month on the Upper West Side, and it now has been named among the hottest new eateries in the borough by Eater NY.
Almost 30 years after Charles Fried Chicken, the Harlem institution, opened its first sidewalk operation, legendary chef and owner Charles Gabriel just helped open a new location at 144-146 West 72nd Street — between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues.
The restaurant opened in the first week of February.

Here's what the Eater editors have to say about the UWS newcomer in "The 15 Hottest New Restaurants in Manhattan, March 2022":
"In one of the most highly anticipated early debuts of the year, the Upper West Side is now home to Charles Gabriel’s legendary fried chicken," the Eater NY Editors wrote. "The decades-old Harlem icon is known for its lesser-seen approach to frying chicken, crisping the bird in a giant skillet instead of vats of bubbling oil."

"The impressive, flavorful result has gained the restaurant legions of followers that are lining up outside the crammed, takeout-only cafe for Charles’ crunchy chicken, creamy mac and cheese, and lima beans that Eater critic Robert Sietsema says will convert even the staunchest lima bean doubter. Barbecued ribs, pulled pork, and smothered chicken are also on the menu."
The Upper West Side location serves up fried chicken, biscuits, waffles, collard greens, mac and cheese, sandwiches, ribs, pulled pork, cornbread and more.
Charles Fried Chicken is famous for making its chicken in a cast-iron skillet, opposed to a deep fryer.
