UWS Man Arrested After Synagogue Threats: Report

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An Upper West Sider who is Jewish and the grandson of a Holocaust survivor is one of two men arrested Friday over threats made against the "Jewish community", reported the New York Post.
Matthew Mahrer, 22, and a Long Island man carried a large hunting knife, a gun, a 30-round magazine when police arrested them entering Penn Station Friday, according to the NYPD and multiple publications.

The arrests came after a threat to attack an unspecified synagogue — along with the line, "Gonna ask a priest if I should become a husband or shoot up a synagogue and die" — was traced from Twitter to one of the men's computers, sources told CNN.
Brown was charged with making terroristic threats, aggravated harassment and criminal possession of a weapon, an NYPD spokesperson said. The Daily News also reported that Brown had a swastika armband at the time of his arrest.

Meanwhile, Upper West Side resident Mahrer was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, an NYPD spokesperson said.
Mahrer lives in the neighborhood with his parents and his 93-year-old grandfather — who survived the Holocaust and for whom Mahrer serves as a part-time caretaker, the New York Post reported.
The Upper West Side man is expected back in court on Wednesday, the newspaper added.
