UWS Straphanger Slashed With Box Cutter Near 72nd St. Station: NYPD
A subway rider was slashed in the forehead during a northbound A train commute early Tuesday morning, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY - A straphanger was slashed in the face while riding a northbound A train on the Upper West Side Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The slash took place about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday near the 72nd Street and Central Park West station, police said.
The male victim was slashed in the forehead and was treated at the nearby station by medics, police said. It was not immediately clear if the slash was the result of a brawl or a random attack.

The suspect, described as wearing a purple jacket and gray pants, fled at the 72nd Street station.

As of Tuesday, New York City has 1,596 reported transit crime incidents so far in 2023, according to city data. That's down about 4.8 percent from the same time the previous year.
In the 20th precinct where the slashing took place, police have seen 17 transit crime incidents so far in 2023. That’s compared to 19 reported this time last year.
