Vintage Holiday Trains Will Run On The Upper West Side: Check It Out

Vintage subway cars will run along the 1 line every Sunday between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Here's when you can catch it.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Train lovers listen up! A special vintage subway train will run along the 1 line for the next three Sundays, including throughout the entirety of the Upper West Side.

The "Holiday Nostalgia Rides" are running as part of the New York Transit Museum's "Rein of the Redbirds" exhibit.

The special trains will run on the 1 line from Chambers Street to 137th Street from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, Dec. 11, and Dec. 18.

The holiday trains ran for the first time on Sunday in front of a joyful crowd of train enthusiasts.

The multiple color trains include a section of cars made in the 1960s with fun names such as "Tartar Red," "Gunn Red", "Green Machines," and Patch's favorite — "Platinum Mist."

The festive Holiday Nostalgia Train cars represent several different eras of the New York City subway system.

The annual running of the special train from the New York Transit Museum returned Sunday after a two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
