When Is Riverside Drive Getting Resurfaced?

West Siders may have noticed that a stretch of Riverside Drive is currently undergoing roadwork. Resurfacing is just around the corner.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY – After a leisurely stroll along the Hudson in Riverside Park earlier this week, a hungry reporter – on his way toward earthy delights (in this case, Sichuan food) – noticed that Riverside Drive remains under construction of some sort between West 86th and 95th streets.

The roadway is currently “milled,” which refers to a process that involves the removal of a layer of concrete or asphalt prior to repair or resurfacing. A milling machine scrapes away the old, worn-out surface to a certain depth, creating a textured – but even – base atop which new asphalt or other road materials can be applied.

So how about Riverside Drive between 86th and 95th?

“The stretch is scheduled for next week’s resurfacing,” a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation (DOT) told Patch, “with the anticipation that it will be completed by week’s end. Weather permitting, of course.”

Construction’s the word in the area, and earlier this week, the Parks Department began work on Riverside Park’s Cherry Walk Greenway, which will be closed through at least March 2025.
