In Which 59th Street Station Is Indiana Jones Riding His Horse?

A Patch investigation chased Indy through the New York City subway system. Somehow we ended up in Scotland.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The first trailer for the new Indiana Jones movie came out on Thursday and one action shot shows a 59th Street subway station.

Jones goes jumping over turnstiles on a horse with what appears to be a New York City 59th Street subway station-styled sign and map of the different subway lines in the background.

The question? Which 59th Street subway station is it?

Three in New York City don that station number: 59th Street Columbus Circle on the Upper West Side, Lexington Avenue/59th Street on the Upper East Side, and the 59th Street station in Brooklyn.

The unfortunate answer, though, is that Harrison Ford didn't ride a horse through any of those three stations.

"Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" was filmed entirely in Glasgow, Scotland. A set was created in the city to replicate New York City's 59th Street.

A sign on the fake subway set reads, "59th Street New York City Transit System, IRT Division, Uptown to the Bronx, Downtown to Fulton St."

Unfortunately, this also does not answer the question of whether the movie director is trying to make it the Upper West Side or Upper East Side 59th Street station.

Both the 1, 2, 3 lines and the 4, 5, 6 lines were formerly part of the IRT Division in New York City, and both go up to The Bronx.

While we might not be able to get to the bottom of which side of Manhattan the new Indiana Jones is trying to depict, the movie is already receiving serious buzz.
