Wild Early Morning Incidents On 105th Street: Police

Responders discovered a vehicle on fire after a ShotSpotter alert on the Upper West Side early Monday morning.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY – Just before 4 a.m. on Monday, police responded to a ShotSpotter activation at 59 West 105th Street between Columbus and Manhattan avenues, authorities said.

On the scene, authorities found a vehicle on fire in front of 58 West 105th Street, a spokesperson told Patch.

There were no injuries and no arrests, and an investigation is ongoing. Officials were unable to confirm the make and model of the vehicle.

FDNY also confirmed that they received a report of a car fire at 58 W 105th Street near Columbus Avenue at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Monday, with no injuries.

ShotSpotter is a gunfire location and detection system that uses over 2,000 acoustic sensors to accurately pinpoint gunshot activity in neighborhoods across New York City.

Although the system purports to save police resources and increase efficiency, a recent audit by Comptroller Brad Lander’s office found that the system is often inaccurate.
