Woman Fights Off Would-Be Rapist In UWS Train Station, Police Say

The woman was attacked Sunday morning as she walked into the West 86th Street and Broadway subway station.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A woman fought off a rapist in an Upper West Side subway station early Sunday morning, police said.

The 32-year-old woman was walking into the West 86th Street and Broadway station around 12:30 a.m. when she was attacked by an unknown man on the stairs, police said. The woman was pushed up against a wall as the man attempted to sexually assault her, police said.

The attacker groped the woman during a struggle, but was eventually fought off and fled the scene, police said. Police described the man as standing about 5-foot-6, but had little other information about the suspect.

An investigation into the attempted rape is ongoing and no arrests have been made, police said.
