Longtime Seaford Civic Leader William Powell at 64

Lifelong Seaford resident William Powell, a maritime enthusiast and an active civic leader in many local organizations, died on Feb. 10. He was 64.

Powell, who served in the U.S Navy during the Vietnam War, was the retired owner of in Seaford. He was a 46-year member and an ex. captain of the . He was past president Seaford Hook Ladder & Engine Co. #1 and was president of the Seaford Fire Department Exempt Benevolent Association.

Among the many other community organizations Powell took part in was serving as vice president of the . Powell was also an active member of the . He was also a member of Hempstead Bay House Association and a board member of the Long Island Decoy Collectors Association.

Powell is survived by his wife Carla, children Bill (Kate), Janice Tice (Rob), brothers Robert (Pat) and John and grandchildren Samantha, Brian, Valerie, Michael, Olivia and Ryan.

A funeral service is scheduled for Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the on 3863 Merrick Road, Seaford. Interment will follow at Grace Church Cemetery in Massapequa.
