SEAFORD, NY — Graffiti with the letters "BLM," a common acronym for the Black Lives Matter movement, has been removed from the Seaford Long Island Rail Road station.

Chris Carini, a Town of Hempstead councilman, told Patch in a phone interview Friday his office was alerted to the vandalism in a stairwell Friday morning.

"I got tons of tags and calls this morning that there was graffiti," he said.

His office was in constant contact with the LIRR and the letters were removed within hours, he said.

"I went down there personally to make sure it was removed," he said.

A former civic leader with the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners' Association, Carini has spearheaded the area's fight against graffiti. As Patch previously reported, he helped remove graffiti that appeared last year at the Wantagh LIRR station.

"Graffiti destroys our suburban landscape and ruins the quality of life in our neighborhoods," he said. "It decreases home values. As town councilman I still plan to battle graffiti in our neighborhoods."

Those with questions can call Carini's office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at 616-812-3285. His office can also be reached via email at ccarini@tohmail.org.
