Christmas in Wantagh-Seaford This Week

A look at events in the area.

It's a slow week for public meetings and government offices, but a very busy week for last minute shopping and planning holiday celebrations. Christmas comes in the middle of the week, and we'll tell you what you need to know.

Here's a look ahead:

Christmas: Wednesday is Christmas Day, a federal, state and local holiday. It is the celebration of the birth of Christ and many local businesses will be closed early Tuesday on Christmas Eve and remain closed through Wednesday.

Schools: Wantagh and Seaford Public Schools will have no classes this week and  will remain closed through New Year's Day.

LIRR: The Long Island Rail Road will add extra trains Tuesday for Christmas Eve There will be six trains added on the Babylon Branch: a 1:28 p.m. train from Penn Station traveling express to Rockville Centre and then local to Babylon; A 1:53 p.m. train from Penn Station stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then traveling local to Babylon; A 2:22 p.m. train from Penn Station traveling express to Rockville Centre and then local to Babylon; A 2:32 p.m. train  from Penn Station traveling express to Lynbrook and then local to Babylon; A 3 p.m. train  from  Penn Station stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre and traveling local to Babylon and a 3:31 p.m. train from Penn Station traveling express to Rockville Centre and then local to Babylon.

Town: Hempstead Town Hall and Senior Centers will be closed on Wednesday. There will be normal Sanitation pickup this week.

Libraries: The Wantagh Public Library will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. The Seaford Library will be open Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and will be closed Wednesday.
