SEAFORD, NY — It remains to be seen if Crabby Amy's, the waterfront restaurant in Seaford that was destroyed by fire last week, will rebuild.

The popular eatery on the Treasure Island Marina said, "We are unsure what the future holds for our dear crab shack."

On Thursday night, the restaurant was fully engulfed by flames when firefighters arrived on the scene.

The Wantagh Fire Department led the efforts to extinguish the Ocean Avenue and found a "heavy volume of fire in the building," a fire spokesperson said. Flames spread to six unoccupied boats in the marina, police said.

"We must thank the Wantagh Fire Department, along with the surrounding companies that were called, for making quick efforts to mitigate the flames," Crabby Amy's wrote.

The restaurant said an "accidental electrical fire" was caused by "severe high tides."

Crabby Amy's, the summertime destination for crabs and oysters, is reminded of another reason people flocked to the restaurant.

"To our crabby crew, current and former, you are all an integral part of what made this restaurant home," they posted to Facebook. "What we do know is how thankful we are for the years we spent serving you."
