Home Depot Planned at Former Levittown K-Mart

Nearby property on Hempstead Turnpike has been vacant since August 2004.

Home Depot is moving forward with their plans to build a new store at the former K-Mart in Levittown on Hempstead Turnpike and Gardiners Avenue, albeit at a slow pace.

Engineers were spotted accessing conditions on the property in the middle of March, but no building or construction has yet to begin on the property.

There is no timeframe yet on when construction would begin but Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes, R-Levittown, told Patch that he plans to meet with the engineers in a month to talk.

"Projects of this size gradually move forward, because of its large size and investment," Hudes said.

K-Mart sold the lease to Home Depot in 2004 and they still own the lease for the property.
