WANTAGH, NY — Mulchay’s will host a fundraiser for law enforcement and their families this weekend.

The non-profit organization Law Enforcement Officers Weekend will stage the annual fundraiser in partnership with the Town of Hempstead at the pub and concert hall, at 3232 Railroad Ave., starting at 7 p.m. Sunday, the municipality announced Wednesday. The Irish band Shilelagh Law NYC will headline the musical performances at the event that will include a live auction, prizes and food and drink.

All proceeds from the event will provide weekend getaways for law enforcement members and their families who were impacted by a loved one who died or was seriously injured in the line of duty. The getaways are at LEO’s Fourth Annual Lake George Weekend from June 16 to 19, Third Annual Long Beach Weekend from July 28 to 31 and Second Annual Miami Weekend from October 6 to 10.
Officials from Law Enforcement Officers Weeknd and Hempstead Town announced the fundraiser at the front of Mulchay’s on Wednesday, the Wantagh Herald reports.

“As a former detective in the NYPD, I know the many hardships faced by law enforcement families, and I encourage Town of Hempstead residents to attend this event in appreciation for everything that our men and women in uniform do to keep our communities safe,” Hempstead Town Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, a retired NYPD detective, said.

NYPD Officer Austin Glickman, president and founder of Law Enforcement Officers Weekend, noted that almost 500 law enforcement officers died and hundreds of others were seriously injured in the line of duty in 2021.

“Although we can only help so few, this fundraiser will assure us the ability to put smiles on the faces of families who have faced the most unthinkable tragedies,” Glickman said.
Law Enforcement Officers Weekend has helped 42 families from 14 different states and from 22 different law enforcement organizations, according to a Hempstead Town press release.

Law enforcement professionals who attend the event at Mulchay’s will be provided with free cab rides home, courtesy of All Island Transportation, according to Hempstead Town’s Facebook page.
