Nov. 10: Absentee Ballots in 14th District, Chili's Fundraiser for Ambulance Service, Soccer Teams Vie for Titles

1.The Nassau County Board of Elections announced yesterday that 494 absentee ballots remain to be counted in the race for the Nassau County Legislature's 14th District between incumbent Joseph Belesi, R-Farmingdale and Democratic challenger Eva Pearson. The race, which had Belesi leading by 51 votes at the close of Election night will be decided in a recount that could determine who controls Mineola for the next two years. 2. The MacArthur girls soccer team won the Class AA county championship yesterday with a 3-0 victory over Calhoun. The Island Trees boys soccer team and Division girls soccer team lost in their respective Class A county finals You can read the recap of the Island Trees boys game here, while the other recaps will be posted later today.

3. The Chili's Bar & Grill on 4100 Hempstead Tpke, Bethpage is holding a fundraiser today for the Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corp. starting at 11 a.m. Fliers for the fundraiser will be made available at the door. The Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corp. will get 10 percent of each check with an attached flyer.

4. Mentalist Michael Lee is performing magic shows for the next month at the Tackapausha Museum in Seaford in an effort to help keep the facility open. To read our article on Lee's shows for the local museum, click here.

5. The Island Trees Public Library on 38 Farmedge Rd., Levittown is holding a zumba class today at 11:15 a.m. taught by Diane Phillips.
