NY State Senate Honors Bill Powell
Legislative Resolution passed in honor of late Seaford community leader.

The New York State Senate has honored the memory of longtime Seaford community leader and maritime enthusiast Bill Powell, who on February 10 of an aortic aneurysm at the age of 64.
A legislative resolution sponsored by State Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., R-Merrick, was passed to honor the many ways Powell gave back to the Seaford community. Powell, who served in the U.S Navy during the Vietnam War, was a 46 year member of the , vice president of the , and a member of the . He was also active with the Hempstead Bay House Association and the Long Island Decoy Association.
“Whether it was defending our country as a member of the Armed Forces,
protecting residents as a volunteer firefighter, or preserving our community’s history as a member of the [Seaford] Historical Society, Bill leaves behind an impressive legacy of service,” said Senator Fuschillo in a statement. “I’m pleased that the senate has memorialized and paid tribute to Bill’s many years of service to his country and community.”

In addition to being an active civic leader in the Seaford community, Powell was known for his love of spending time on the bay with his family. He was a descendant of Thomas Powell, who was one of the first settlers on Long Island.
