Wantagh Couple Hosting Charity Golf Outing for Alpers Awareness
Michael and Jennifer Shanahan formed The Brendan & Liam Shanahan Foundation in honor of two sons they lost to rare genetic disease.

Wantagh residents Michael and Jennifer Shanahan have dealt with personal tragedy in recent years when their two boys, Brendan and Liam, died from a rare genetic disease called Alpers around their first birthday.
The Wantagh couple is now doing their part to raise awareness of Alpers through a charity they established called The Brendan & Liam Shanahan Foundation aimed at helping other families caught in similar situations that they suffered through. The non-profit organization is hosting its fourth annual golf outing on July 30 at Hamlet Wind Country Club in Hauppauge.
Registration for Monday's fundraiser begins at noon with a golf scheduled to commence at 1:30 p.m. A dinner and open bar is scheduled to run from 6-9 p.m.
