Wantagh Public Library to Close for Renovations

Facility will be closed to public for six weeks starting Wednesday.

The will be closed for interior renovations during a six-week period starting this Wednesday.

The planned renovations to the library located on 3285 Park Ave. include enhancements to the community room and public bathrooms as well as asbestos removal from glue adhering flooring sections in the facility. There will also be installations of new flooring throughout the library as well as new automatic doors for both entrances. The renovation project also involves a retro-fitting of the railings surrounding the main stack areas of the library.

The upcoming renovation project follows other improvements the library undertook in late 2010. This included resurfacing the roof last fall and installing new windows in the spring.

Wantagh Public Library president Margaret Kowalski said the latest renovation project is being paid for with grant funding.

Kowalski said that while the facility is closed until early December, materials due back will not accrue fines. She urged patrons to visit surrounding libraries during the closure. Library programs that had been scheduled for Wantagh in the next six weeks will be moved to other locations when possible and patrons can check their website for the latest updates, Kowalski said.
