'Children's Place' In Inwood Sued For $200K In Rent By Landlord

The landlord of The Children's Place store at 132 Dyckman Street is suing the business, alleging unpaid rent to the tune of $200,000.

INWOOD, NY — An Upper Manhattan landlord filed a lawsuit recently against The Children's Place store at 132 Dyckman Street that alleges unpaid rent starting in 2017 and accuses the business of consistently missing monthly payments at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, according to court documents.

The lawsuit from Dyckman Sherman Realty LLC says that the Inwood Children's Place owes $218,101 with interest as of Sept. 27, 2021.

The Children's Place did not respond to Patch's request for comment.

The Children's Place is an American specialty retailer of children's apparel and accessories. It is open every day in Inwood from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., besides on Sunday when it welcomes customers from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The store signed a lease with Dyckman Sherman Realty LLC in 2011 that was originally scheduled to expire in 2017, but the two parties chose to extend the lease five years, which is now set to end on Jan. 31, 2022.

After failing to pay just over $1,000 in rent in 2017, the Children's Place failed to pay the full base rent of $28,000 from March to May 2020, according to the lawsuit.

Subsequently, for most of the period between June 2020 and June 2021, the children's store failed to pay its full monthly rent, according to the lawsuit.

After that, Dyckman Sherman Realty says that the Children's Place again stopped paying the full $28,000 rent in July, August, and September of this year.

The full amount of unpaid rent comes out to $218,101 with interest, according to the lawsuit.
