INWOOD, NY — Demolition permits were filed last week for a one-story vacant 34,000 square-foot building at 488 West 207th Street in Inwood.

The removal of the former Pathmark supermarket looks to be clearing room for a new commercial retail space that would include a 20,000 square-foot supermarket and several smaller retailers, according to permits filed in 2016.

There have been no new building permits filed for the address since.

Back in 2015, Taconic Partners, along with Cogswell-Lee Development Group, acquired the site, also addressed as 410 West 207th Street, located between Ninth and Tenth Avenues, according to Commerical Observer.

The real estate news site reported that the two buyers bought the sizable plot of Upper Manhattan land for just $341,355.

There will also be a 14,000 square-foot retail annex built on a section of the current parking lot at 488 West 207th Street, which will reduce the parking spaces from 200 to 120, according to NewYorkYimby.

NewYorkYimby also added that Taconic plans to create a mixed-use residential building on the site with a ground-floor retail space and over 700 available apartments.

It's not clear from the demolition permits when the one-story vacant building will be knocked down.

The demolition of the vacant supermarket and subsequent site redevelopment adds to a growing list of projects that have been kickstarted in the neighborhood after the drawn-out legal battle commenced over the controversial Inwood rezoning project.

Other projects that have started in the past few months include the 14-story development at 4790 Broadway, named The Eliza, that will house the new Inwood library and affordable housing units. Additionally, the demolition of a long-vacant garage at 4650 Broadway will clear the way for a $190 million mixed-use development with 30 percent of units classified as affordable.
